PETERBOROUGH NORTHERN STAR 0 DEEPING RANGERS 4: Resurgent Rangers climbed back up to second in the UCL Premier Division table with an emphatic derby win over mid-table Star on Tuesday night.
A first-half double from the returning Josh Moreman (4 and 29) put Deeping in command, before Matt Heron (44) notched number three.
Ex-Holbeach United winger Mitch Griffiths (46) rounded off the rout, as Tuncay Korkmaz’s side moved within 16 points of leaders Spalding United with a game in hand.
Deeping went ahead on four minutes when Griffiths’ scuffed shot was turned over the line by Moreman, who was allowed to play by his parent club Kettering Town.
Scott Ginty then lobbed an effort onto the angle of post and bar, before Moreman doubled the lead with a low shot from a Heron lay-off.
It was essentially game over when Heron got in on the act on the stroke of half time, as the big striker turned in a Gilbert cross for 3-0.
It took just one minute of the second period for the visitors to grab their fourth, Griffiths tapping home after another Gilbert effort was blocked.
Deeping now turn their attention to a potentially pivotal trip to rivals AFC Rushden and Diamonds on Saturday (3pm).
The duo are locked together on 53 points in the UCL Premier Division standings, with Ranges just ahead on goal difference. Diamonds won the reverse fixture 3-2 on the opening day of the season.
