FORMER team-mates and friends of the late local footballer Nigel “Nod” Carr are being invited to take part in a charity game in his honour this weekend.
Nigel, who was best known for a successful spell at former Spalding Sunday League side Bettinsons in the early 1980s, died last year after losing a battle with cancer. He also played for Holbeach St Marks and Holbeach Bank.
Two teams have already been assembled to play in a memorial match at Long Sutton Football Club this Saturday (5.30pm kick off), with former Peterborough United ace Dave Gregory among those scheduled to feature.
As well as the match, there will be a hog roast and barbecue put on, while all players are encouraged to stay and watch the Champions League final on television with a few drinks after the match.
All proceeds from the match will go to Macmillan and Cancer Research.
