Tuncay Korkmaz has insisted that his Deeping Rangers side are still on-course to reach their targets for this season – despite slipping down to fourth in the UCL Premier Division table.
Deeping slumped to a 3-0 loss at Spalding on Boxing Day, which allowed AFC Rushden and Diamonds and Cogenhoe United to leapfrog them.
Improving on last year’s fifth place finish has always been Korkmaz’s target for the season though – and he’s pleased with the club’s progress ahead of Saturday’s trip to Peterborough Northern Star (3pm).
Korkmaz said: “The title is Spalding’s to lose, I’ve never said we were in the race.
“Our goal has always been to improve on last year – and we’re on-course for that.
“Saturday is a local derby and it could go either way. We’re missing a few players, but it’s a game we’ll target maximum points from.”
Deeping have lost left back Lewis Stone to Peterborough League side Whittlesey United, with work commitments the reason behind the move.
Mitch Griffiths (suspended) and Stacy Cartwright (injury) are also ruled out.
