Tom James fired a treble against his former side as Spalding United beat Boston Town 4-0 in the UCL Premier Division on Tuesday night, while Deeping Rangers suffered a 2-1 loss at Kempston Rovers.
The Tulips winger struck on five, eight and 68 minutes at the Sir Halley Stewart Playing Field, with Francis Green rounding off the scoring in the final minute.
As a result, Spalding move above South Holland rivals Holbeach United into second spot (for 24 hours at least) – but they remain eight points adrift of leaders St Ives Town, who won 3-0 at Wellingborough Town.
But Deeping dropped to sixth after suffering a third league loss of the campaign. Danny Watson put Kempston ahead at half-time, but Ash Stevens missed a penalty for Tuncay Korkmaz’s side.
David Burton-Jones did haul the visitors level with a header on 49 minutes, but Ash Farmer (67) settled the contest.
Holbeach will re-take second spot tonight if they avoid defeat against Sleaford Town at Carter’s Park tonight (7.45pm).
