YAXLEY 3 HOLBEACH UNITED 1: Holbeach’s alarming slump in form continued on Saturday as they suffered a fifth defeat on the bounce.
Two quick-fire goals from Scott Carter (24) and ex-Tiger Rob Hughes (29) put Yaxley in command of the UCL Premier Division clash at the break.
Curt Yeatman did pull one back for the Tigers on 51 minutes, but Denny Escorcio’s overhead kick nine minutes from time sealed the points for the Cuckoos.
There were a few positives for Glen Maddison’s men, though.
Defender Jack Smith made his return to the side at centre back, while Tommy Treacher – re-signed from Deeping Rangers on Friday – came on as a second-half substitute.
But the overiding emotion for Tigers boss Maddison was one of frustration.
He said: “We certainly didn’t deserve to lose. But when your luck is out, this kind of result will happen.
“We let in two sloppy goals in the first half, but when Curt scored we were camped in their half.
“For them to then score an outrageous overhead kick about sums our luck up.
“I’m not going to be too hard on the lads, I thought they did OK. We just need to stop the rot somehow and end this losing run.”
Maddison has seven-day notices of approach in for Sleaford attacker Scott Coupland and Boston Town defender Luke Wilson.
Tigers: Overton, Murrell, Relf, Warfield, Smith, Shipley (Sevilha), Law, Sergeant, Waumsley (Tunstall), Hollingworth (Treacher), Yeatman. Not used: Johnson.
