Nobody has a tougher festive period than Holbeach United – but Glen Maddison has backed his side to give local rivals Wisbech Town and Deeping Rangers a run for their money.
The Tigers visit the Fenmen for a UCL Premier Division derby today (3pm), before making the short trip to face high-flying Deeping on Saturday (also 3pm).
Maddison’s men are just three points behind Wisbech ahead of the Boxing Day bash – and the Holbeach supremo feels that reflects positively on his charges.
He said: “I fully expect Wisbech to be among the top five come the end of the season. They are a strong side in very good form.
“Obviously our aim is to match them, they are at the top of a mini-league that includes the likes of us and Peterborough Northern Star.
“It’s a tough couple of games for us, but we need to keep plugging away. If we can get close to where Wisbech finish come the end of the season, I’d say we’ll have done very, very well.”
The Tigers have no injury concerns for the derby double, but have failed to persuade defender Jonny Clay to join them from Peterborough Northern Star.
Maddison is allowed to talk to Boston Town’s Jordan Nuttell though – and is hoping to tie up a deal this week.
