DEEPING Rangers blew a 2-0 lead as Stotfold beat them 3-2 in a thrilling Hinchingbrooke Cup semi-final on Tuesday night, while Pinchbeck United drew 1-1 at Ramsey Town.
After a goalless first period at Outgang Road, Deeping went ahead just before the hour when David Burton-Jones headed home Josh Moreman’s corner.
Hopes of a final date grew even more when Scott Ginty set up leading scorer Moreman to bury a second a couple of minutes later.
But Stotfold, UCL Premier Division champions back in 2008, started their comeback 15 minutes from time when Lewis Holmes converted a rebound from close range.
Four minutes later Luke Nichol netted from a corner, setting up 30 minutes of extra time.
With the tie looking destined for penalties, it took a spectacular free kick from Josh Cook on 110 minutes to end Deeping’s hopes of silverware for another season.
That’s not the case for Pinchbeck, who extended their lead at the top of the Peterborough and District Premier Division to two points with their draw at the reigning champions.
