ANOTHER action-packed Saturday saw Spalding United beaten 1-0 by Belper Town, while Holbeach United lost 3-2 to S & L Corby and Deeping Rangers thumped Rothwell Corinthians 7-1.

In what was Andy Stanhope’s first home game in charge of the Tulips, a late Ruben Wiggins-Thomas strike left Spalding rooted to the bottom of Evo-Stik League First Division South.

The Tulips fielded a new-look line-up and defended well all afternoon, while Natharn Thackery in goal produced a man-of-the-match display on debut.

But Belper bossed most of the game and, after spurning a host of fine chances, Wiggins-Thomas swept home from six yards to secure his side all three points.

Meanwhile in the UCL Premier Division, the Tigers blew a 2-0 lead against S & L Corby at Carter’s Park.

Mitch Griffiths struck twice to put John Chand’s charges on-course for a rare win, but Matt Warfield’s second-half red card turned the game on its head as the visitors roared back to steal all three points.

Elsewhere, Deeping drilled a magnificent seven goals past Rothwell as their stunning form continued.

Matt Heron (3), Mark Jones (2), Liam Harrold and Kevin Gilbert were all on target to guide Tuncay Korkmaz’s side to a crushing success over the basement boys.

In the Peterborough and District League, Pinchbeck United went out of the PFA Senior Cup on penalties after a 0-0 draw with Ramsey Town.

There was no such trouble for Moulton Harrox though, as they battered Stamford Bels 5-0.

Danny Cairns, David Kantak, Joe Townsend, Joshua Ford and Phillip Groves hit the goals.
