DEEPING RANGERS 1 PETERBOROUGH NS 1: Three players were sent off as Deeping were forced to settle for a point against mid-table Star in a real demolition derby at Outgang Road on Saturday.

A largely dour UCL Premier Division clash burst into life when Billy Smith smashed the visitors ahead from long range 13 minutes from time.

Then came a red card spree, with Deeping’s Mitch Griffiths and PNS’s Phil Stebbing both walking. Ex-Holbeach man Griffiths collected a second caution for dissent, having earlier being booked for a late lunge on Kieron Davies.

Stebbing, formerly of Rangers, got a straight red moments later for kicking out – and that opened the door for Scott Ginty to notch a deflected leveller for Tuncay Korkmaz’s side on 86 minutes.

The drama was far from over, though, as Deeping’s Craig Parker was given a straight red for a reckless challenge on Matt Porter.

Before the chaotic finale, Deeping had hit the woodwork when Alex Beck’s cross was palmed against his own post by Nick Conroy.

There was also a nasty flashpoint between Stacy Cartwright and Star’s Matt Sparrow, with the Deeping man accused of biting his opponent. Both players were eventually booked.

The draw sees Deeping drop to fifth in the table, but they’re only two points behind second-placed AFC Rushden and Diamonds ahead of tonight’s trip to Wisbech Town (7.45pm).

Deeping: Doughty, Braithwaite, Parker, Tinkler, Cartwright, Burton-Jones, Flack (Oliver), Ginty, Beck, Heron, Griffiths. Not used: Ashton, Bogusz.

• Saturday: Deeping v Desborough (3pm).
