PINCHBECK UTD RES 5 OLD DONS 2: FIVE-STAR Pinchbeck United Reserves continued their unbeaten start to pre-season with a hard-fought win over Old Dons.
The score flattered United somewhat, with the Boston League side the better team for large periods – especially in the first half.
Both keepers were prominent, with the Dons’ number one gift-wrapping Pinchbeck a 2-0 lead with two poor handling errors.
Striker Dan Thornally capitalised on both errors, with one of his brace coming from the penalty spot.
At the other end, veteran Jez Hudson rolled back the years with numerous saves from Pinchbeck old boy Jonny Butler, who was a constant thorn in the side of his old team.
Dons did reduce the arrears from a corner when a free header was afforded Liam Pitts. However, Pinchbeck’s new signing Josh Wilson – playing against his former club – soon put the home side back in front with a similar goal to give the home side a 3-1 lead at the break.
Pinchbeck were much better in the second half, but they still had Hudson to thank for a number of top saves.
He was eventually beaten when Ryan Long scored from the spot, but the Donington team’s comeback was snuffed out when Luke Gardner rifled in a free kick on the hour.
The scoring was complete for Pinchbeck when sub Chris Beale rammed home a super strike soon after coming on.
Pinchbeck: Hudson, Harper, Dickinson (Clow), Wilson, West (Hempsall), Moore, Harrison, Gardner (Beale), Harker (Romanus), Sharman (Scupham), Thornally (Boekestyn).
