HUNTINGDON TOWN 2 DEEPING RANGERS 0: Tuncay Korkmaz admitted that Deeping were second-best in every department as his side crashed out of the Hinchingbrooke Cup on Wednesday night.

A pair of wonder goals from Caspar Irso-Coombes (11) and Declan Rogers (90) deservedly sent Huntingdon in the last four, with Rangers slipping to back-t0-back defeats for the first time this season.

Korkmaz’s men were missing a number of key men at at Jubilee Park and are still in the hunt for silverware in the UCL Premier Division, UCL Knockout Cup and Lincs FA Senior Trophy.

With that in mind, the Turkish tactician refused to be too hard on his side.

He said: “We can have no excuses, on balance they deserved to go through. They were better than us all over the pitch.

“They had players out too, but we probably had one too many missing and the balance just wasn’t right.

“Of course, you never want to go out of any cup.

“But we’re still in two other cup competitions and – if I’m honest – this was the lowest of our priorities.

“I’ve never won either the UCL Cup or the Lincs Cup with Deeping, so that’s obviously a massive aim for us.”

With the likes of Mitch Griffiths, Craig Parker, Adam Weston and Kev Gilbert joining long-term absentees Harry Deane and Ciaran Holt on the sidelines, Korkmaz has decided the time is right to delve back into the transfer market.

He’s made seven-day notices of approach for Holbeach United defender Joe Braithwaite, Wisbech Town defender Jon Fairweather and Boston Town full back Loz Lambley.

A number of other players are also on Deeping’s radar, but they’ve also been rocked by approaches for three of their top talents.

St Ives Town have put seven days in for striker Josh Moreman, while Northampton Silbey are in for Nicky Young and Peterborough Northern Star are chasing Ondre Odain.

Korkmaz added: “We probably need three new signings to boost the squad.

“Anyone that I have put seven days in for is a genuine target and we want to bring them to the club. Hopefully I can convince them to come.”

Deeping: Doughty, Flack, Stone, Tinkler, Gilbert (Bogusz), Heron (Young), Burton-Jones, Ginty, Beck (Oliver), Moreman, Odain.
