FOOTBALL: Cracking win for Tigers, another defeat for Tulips,

MATT O’Halloran hit a debut goal as Holbeach United earned a superb 2-0 win at Irchester United on Saturday, while Spalding United were beaten 2-1 by leaders Barwell.

Tigers boss John Chand only completed a deal for striker O’Halloran on Friday - and it already looks like smart business.

He and Jonny Allen were on the scoresheet as Holbeach completed a UCL Premier Division double over sixth-placed Irchester, moving themselves further clear of the drop zone.

Elsewhere in the UCL Premier, Deeping Rangers suffered a disappointing 4-1 loss at Daventry United.

Matt Heron got the consolation strike for Tuncay Korkmaz’s men.

In Evo-Stik League Division One South, the Tulips slipped to a 24th defeat of the season against an depleted Barwell outfit.

Skipper Scott Hadland blasted the away side into a 20th-minute lead - and Jai Stanley (76) doubled their money with a blockbuster effort.

Corey Carruthers did pull one back for Andy Stanhope’s side late on, but they stay 12 points from safety with just nine games left to play.

Meanwhile, Peterborough Premier League duo Pinchbeck United and Moulton Harrox were both in cracking form.

Pinchbeck won 5-2 at champions Rutland Rangers, with Ian Dunn, Jamie Cartlidge, Luke Gardner, Mark Lovelace and Oliver Maltby all on target. The win keeps then on target for the title, as they stay 11 points off top spot with four games in hand.

Harrox won a seven-goal thriller 4-3 at Stamford Bels to stay fourth, with Josh Ford (2), Chris Hall and Phil Groves the scorers.
