FOOTBALL: Cotton salvages point for Tulips

Dan Cotton’s late strike earned Spalding United a 1-1 draw at UCL Premier Division title rivals St Ives Town on Tuesday night.

A 30th-minute stunner from Kark Gibbs had put the second-placed Saints in command at Westwood Road, but Cotton curled home a fine leveller 15 minutes from time.

The draw leaves leaders Holbeach United as the real winners, with the Tigers now 13 points clear of St Ives (who have three games in hand) and 19 clear of the Tulips (four games in hand).

Although John Chand’s side still have to play St Ives twice and Spalding once, they’re in a commanding position with 11 games to go.

See Thursday’s Spalding Guardian for a full report and reaction.

Spalding: Duggan, Canoville, Thurlbourne, Jacklin, Fuff, Steadman (Smedley), Beeson (Doherty), Hall, Battersby (Kennedy), King, Cotton.
