BIG FREEZE: Fans warned to expect more postponements

South Holland’s top trio of sporting teams are warning fans that there is little chance of any action this weekend.

Pitches around the nation are likely to remain covered in snow and many are frozen, with the ‘big thaw’ set to start on Saturday at the earliest.

The pick of the potential fixtures sees Spalding United scheduled to visit Ely City in the fourth round of the FA Vase on Saturday (3pm).

It emerged on Wednesday that the FA were exploring the possibility of moving the match back 24 hours to Sunday, but Tulips chief Pat Rayment doesn’t think his team will play again this month.

Spalding are also supposed to be hosting rivals Holbeach United in the Lincs FA Senior Trophy on Tuesday night (7.45pm).

In the UCL Premier Division, Holbeach are pencilled in for a trip to Long Buckby (3pm). Tigers’ chief John Chand told the Spalding Guardian that there is “little or no chance” of that going ahead.

Similarly, Spalding RFC skipper Harry Sharman said that it was “very unlikely” that Town’s home game with Old Northamptonians (2.15pm) would be on.
