A RUN of four straight league wins ended abruptly for Spalding United.

They were thrashed 5-1 at Newport Pagnell Town.

Greg Smith kept up his run of scoring in every match for the Tulips. His ninth goal in five matches brought them back into it at 2-1, but Andy Stanhope’s side leaked three more goals.

The boss groaned: “We were awful from start to finish.”

In the FA Vase second qualifying round, Holbeach United bounced back from their 2-0 midweek defeat at Spalding with a 4-0 hammering of Newark Town.

The goals were shared around between Tommy Teacher, Andrew Tidswell, Ashley Stevens and Lewis Brooks.

Also safely through to the next round are freescoring Deeping Rangers, who hit three without reply at Ollerton Town.
