THERE was perfect preparation for the long-awaited Spalding United v Holbeach United league derby tomorrow night (7.45pm).

The Tulips smashed five unanswered goals past Desborough and the Tigers beat S&L Corby 3-0.

Greg Smith continued his scoring start to life at the Sir Halley Stewart Playing Field with a brace of goals.

Fellow striker Simon Mowbray also bagged two but missed out on a hat-trick when his penalty was saved.

Jammal Shahin was the other on target.

At Carter’s Park, Ash Stevens, Andrew Tidswell and Jamie Stevens hit the goals which got the Tigers back on track after back-to-back defeats.

Deeping Rangers are into the third qualifying round of the FA Cup with Budweiser.

They thrashed New Mills 5-1 at Outgang Road to claim a second Evo Stik Northern Premier scalp. Goals came from Mark Jones, Tony Battersby (penalty), two from Josh Moreman and Kev Gilbert.
