FOOTBALL: Tigers’ away delight; Tulips and Deeping pegged back to draws

HOLBEACH United can seriously start eyeing a top-three finish after a fine 1-0 win at Wellingborough Town.

The Tigers’ awayday haul - courtesy of a late winner from re-signed striker Liam Nimmo - was further bolstered by news of fourth-placed St Ives Town losing 2-0 at championship-chasing Long Buckby.

Meanwhile, at the Sir Halley Stewart Playing Field, a niggly derby between Spalding United and Boston Town ended all-square.

Boston captain Michael Wood headed Ben Porter’s free kick into his own net to put the Tulips ahead on 41 minutes but Mark Foster’s 61st minute low drive earned a deserved point for Boston.

Tulips’ Ricky Miller and Poachers’ Jack Smith were both sent off on 12 minutes after a clash which left Smith with a bloody nose.

Deeping Rangers went 2-0 up at home to Peterborough Northern Star through Josh Moreman and an own goal but had to settle for a point after a fine comeback from the city side.
