Excellent performances were celebrated at Moulton Harrox Cricket Club’s first-ever under-9 awards ceremony.
The club has run an academy section for children as young as six wanting to play cricket for several years, but decided to extend this to entering the Border County Youth Cricket Association’s Under-9 competition in 2014.
The eight-a-side pairs competition among teams from the Stamford and Spalding area has provided an excellent platform for the club’s youngsters to hone their skills and, despite having a small squad of just 11 players, they finished fifth equal in their league in their first season.
This included a tie against eventual winners Uffington in their first match back in May and the team’s first win was achieved against Stamford in June.
Under-9 coach Adrian Cunnington thanked everyone involved in making the team’s first season so enjoyable and all the team members were presented with an award by club chairman Roger Grant.
The coach’s fielder of the year award was given to Cameron Fox from Moulton, who only joined the club partway through the competition in June.
The award for bowler of the year went to Thomas Hoyle of Sutton St Edmund for three best performances.
Batsman of the year was team captain William Moxon (pictured) from Weston Hills who scored 161 runs for just two wickets lost across the whole season.
Children interested in joining the Moulton Harrox Cricket Academy in 2015 can register their interest through the club’s website at www.mh.play-cricket.com or by calling 01406 371385.
