SPALDING Town Cricket Club are hosting the NatWest Cricket Force Event this Saturday.
The day, which runs from 9am-2pm, is an opportunity to tidy up the club’s facilities and for any local businesses to attach themselves to the up and coming team.
Town, who start their South Lincs and Border season on April 16, will again be entering three teams into the league.
Chairman Heath Ripley said: “We’re very much a community club and we are hosting the day to inject new ideas and new people of all ages into the club as we continue to improve and expand the club.
“Also it is a great opportunity for people who want to know more about the club to come down and meet the players and committee.”
Last Sunday Spalding hosted an inter-club match, with 30 players enjoyed a game after three months of indoor nets.
The forthcoming season cannot come quickly enough for the club, with all three Saturday league sides being strengthened over the winter months.
In Simon Juckes (first team), Tom Dale (seconds) and Stu Parker (thirds) they have three experienced captains. Ben Westlake captains the fourth team, which has a full friendly fixture list for Sundays.
There is cricket for all abilities within the club, which has created a friendly community spirit.
This is also the second year Spalding have run their academy, which was set up by Mike Kearns (snr).
On the back of a successful first season, the academy are entering teams in the Borders Youth cricket league at under-13 and under-11 levels.
With Jim Clarke taking up a new role as development officer, he will run the academy on a Monday evening between 6pm and 7pm for 5 to 12-year-olds.
Spalding are also are holding coaching and registration mornings on a Sunday at Spalding Grammar School from 9am until 10.30am.
Clarke is looking to build on the strong links the club has with the local secondary and primary school which will help secure the long term future of the club.
The club would also like to place on record their thanks to Bakkavor (Spalding) on becoming the club and academy’s main sponsor this season.
