Sandringham 1st (92) lost to Long Sutton 1st (93-3) by seven wickets: DOMINANT Long Sutton continued their fine form as they thrashed former West Norfolk League Division One leaders Sandringham to jump above them into second in the table.
After winning the toss on Saturday, visitors Sutton elected to field – and despite a solid start from opener James Banham (21), they removed him in the sixth over with a fine diving catch from Phil Barnes off Barry Stanway’s (2-29) bowling.
Sandringham’s wickets continued to fall, with only Ian Perrin (46 not out) and Lloyd Richmond (12) making double figures.
Good bowling from Jimmy Wright (3-14) and Ian Duck (3-24) ripped through their line-up, leaving the hosts all out for 92.
Sutton made a nervy start to their reply, losing opening pair Steve Skoulding (3) and Chris Booth (14) in the first ten overs.
However, a splendid partnership from Adam Wright (48 not out) and Paul Edgeller (15) took Sutton to within five runs of their total target, before Barnes completed the chase.
Long Sutton Sunday 1st (122-7) beat Oundle Sunday 2nd (119) by three wickets
ON-SONG Sutton completed a fourth straight Rutland League victory with a nervy three-wicket win over league leaders Oundle.
With Oundle electing to bat first, Paul Edgeller (3-24) made an early breakthrough before a partnership between Pete Wilson (18) and Neil Fox (31) began to develop.
Jake Burton (2-27) then removed both participants, before Ian Morris (3-31) knocked over the middle order.
With Sutton also aided by some interesting running, Oundle were dismissed for 119.
Phil Coote (5) was dismissed early in the Sutton run chase, but Jamie Taylor (44) and Tim Norris (34) guided Sutton to near the 120 required to win.
When both were finally dismissed by Oundle skipper Peter Wilson (5-37), Sutton looked nervy.
But Edgeller (14 not out) and Jordan Keeble (3 not out) saw them hope with three wickets in hand.
