SPALDING Cricket Club skipper Simon Juckes is targeting a top three finish ahead of the new South Lincs and Border League season.
Town are one of just three of our local teams to get their campaign under way this weekend, as they visit promoted Stamford Town in Division One on Saturday (1pm).
After enjoying a solid return to the top flight last season, Spalding have added talented duo Mike Kearns Jnr and Rob Ambrose to their ranks over the winter.
And Juckes reckons his side have every chance of challenging at the top end of the table.
He said: “I’m hoping to mirror last year and maybe go one better, third or even second should be our aim.
“We are well prepared after months of nets and friendly fixtures and have a great squad togetherness.
“I’m happy with the new signings and they’ve settled well too.”
Juckes will have to do without inspirational all-rounder Ansar Hussain for the first three weeks of the season though, as he’s currently in his native Pakistan.
Spalding will again field a second team in Division Two, while their thirds will compete in Division Three.
Moulton Harrox Sunday get their Division Three season up and running at Grantham 2nd on Sunday (1pm), while Spalding 3rd host local rivals Baston at the Memorial Field (also 1pm). Division One-based Harrox 1st start at champions Billingborough next weekend.
Pinchbeck have also joined the South Lincs and Border League and will start in the third tier. They begin with a derby against Spalding 3rd next Saturday.
