AN EXCITING new era at Spalding Cricket Club gets under way on Sunday as the new-look 1st team visit Wisbech for their opening friendly fixture.
Town, who are targeting promotion to the Lincs ECB Premier Division, then get their South Lincs and Border League Division One campaign started at Market Deeping next Saturday.
New 1st team skipper Rob Ambrose, who has landed talented quartet Josh Newton, Charlie Kearns, Tim Norris and Barry Stanway over the close season, admits there is a positive buzz at the club.
“Preparations for our new season have been going really well,” said a bullish Ambrose. “I’ve been pleased with how the lads have responded to the changes that have been made and can’t wait for it all to start.
“There is a really positive feel about the club at the moment. The new players that have joined have really impressed in the nets and they give us a very strong chance of doing well this season.
“We have a very tough friendly away at Wisbech and I have a full squad to choose from, so it’s going to be difficult for me as our standards in nets have been very good.”
Outdoor practice is now under way at Spalding Grammar School.
The club’s academy will be running sessions on Monday nights (6-7.15pm) for five to 11-year-olds, with any aspiring youngsters urged to give the game a try.
Town’s under-13 and under-15 age groups will practice on Wednesday nights (6-8pm), with the seniors in the nets on both Thursday and Friday evenings (6-8pm).
