Spalding Town Cricket Club get their pre-season programme under way this weekend with two warm-up games against Caistor and Ailsworth and North Runcton.

The friendly fixtures – both starting at 1pm at the Memorial Field – will be a good test for Town, as both of their opponents play in their respective county premier leagues.

Caistor are the first visitors on Saturday, with Runcton following 24 hours later.

Town have been working hard over pre-season as they prepare for their debut season in the Lincs ECB Premier League. They’ve been boosted by the arrival of new boys Warren Nel and Campbell Light – and skipper Rob Ambrose has been happy with the response of his players.

He said: “The players from last season have really worked hard in pre-season to improve ready for this year, we all know its going to be tough.

“Warren has been coaching the lads since January which has been great, hes got some really good ideas.

“Campbell arrived from Zimbabwe a fortnight ago and has fitted in nicely with the guys already. He looks to be a decent player from what we have seen from him so far and let’s hope he continues.”

Things are looking good for Town on and off the field, having attracted a host of new sponsors for the upcoming season. The committee has worked very hard in securing help from local firms to continue to growth of the club.

Estate agent Pygott and Crone have agreed to become the principal sponsor of Town this season and they were in Spalding on Friday to hand over a new-sponsored kit.

Josh Newton, who is in charge of Town’s commercial activities, said: “ The club would like to thank Lewis Brooks and all at Pygott and Crone for their generosity.

“They are new to Spalding and were really keen to get on board. Let’s hope its the start of a long relationship.”
