Talismanic Billingborough Cricket Club opener Dave Newman passed 5,000 runs for the club in Saturday’s South Lincs and Border League Division One triumph over Skegness 2nd.
Title favourites Boro’ breezed to an eight-wicket win over the former league leaders, having limited them to just 104-8 in their 45 overs.
Rutvik Botadra (4-18), Roy Tilley (2-15) and Dave Gollop (2-19) did the damage with the ball, with only Andrew Sylvester (34no) showing any kind of batting form for Skeg.
In reply, openers Luke Hollingworth and Newman both fell for 11, but for the latter it was enough to pass a significant individual milestone.
That brought Steve Scott to the crease – and he produced an explosive innings to smash Skegness’ chances of an upset out of the park.
He slapped seven fours and two sixes in a sublime 56 not out, with Botadra (16no) playing an assured innings alongside him.
With those two in top form, Billingborough eased past their target in the first ball of the 21st over – leaving them second in the table with a perfect return of four wins from as many games.
