Local female athletes were in action for Nene Valley Harriers in the Southern Athletics League at Stevenage.
A promising team performance saw Harriers finish second to last year’s winners Southampton. Thanks to Alice Dolan, Elisha Reid, Nicky Morgan and Aimee Renton, who voluntarily stepped up to fill gaps. Dolan broke the club record in the 1,500m steeplechase and Andrea Jenkins was ranked in the man of the match awards for her hammer throw. Aimee Renton, Natasha Segal, Emma Hornsby and Emily Maltby smashed a 19-year-old club record, clocking a 51.45 time in the 4x100m relay. Then Georgie Ivens, Paige Lambert, Rosie Marshall and Michelle Tweed ran a club record time of 4.12.37 in the 4x400m relay, beating the previous best, set 21 years ago, by 2.5 seconds and leading the Southampton team until the last 200m. This was a top performance and sets a high standard for the rest of the season.
