BOURNE Grammar School duo Emma Hornsby and Jamie Horne roared to bronze medals at the English Schools national finals.

The talented teens, who were joined by Bourne Academy’s Alex Hampson, were representing Lincolnshire at the Gateshead event.

The ever-impressive Hornsby took third in the intermediate girls’ long jump with 5.47m, beating several higher ranked athletes in the process.

That showing helped the Lincolnshire squad to second in the team event, just half a point behind the winners.

Horne managed a personal best leap of 1.81m in the junior boys’ high jump, which was just 3cm behind the winner. His clearance is a new school record and was a national standard effort.

Meanwhile, Hampson set a personal best time as he raced to sixth in the 1,500m.

Lincolnshire team manager and Bourne Grammar School teacher Jackie Mohan said: “We are very proud of Emma and Jamie. They have trained very hard and deserve their success.

“Lincolnshire had their most successful championships for many years.”

The athletes are now waiting to see if they have qualified for the AAA event, which features the best of British school athletes later this summer.
