BURTON PARK WANDERERS 2
SPALDING UNITED 2
TWO new recruits struck as the Tulips twice came from behind to earn a battling draw on Tuesday night.
A well-taken Tony Anelka strike and Dan Westwood's late leveller saved Spalding from what would have been an embarrassing defeat to a Wanderers side that play two levels below them.
Although not too impressed with the showing, Spalding supremo Richard Scott is happy with the goal threat shown by his new-look side.
Scott's charges have hit six goals in their three pre-season fixtures to date - and he could further add to his attacking options with the capture of Ian Dunn.
The Ex-Bourne Town, Holbeach United and indeed Tulips striker is keen to earn a deal at the Sir Halley Stewart Playing Field and may return from injury at Wisbech Town on Saturday.
"As performances go, I wasn't too impressed with what I saw," said Scott, who plans to field a much-changed side against the Fenmen.
"But I needed to see some of the lads play for 90 minutes and it was a worthwhile exercise. What has impressed me is the attack, we have scored two in each of our three games and look dangerous.
"The defence is leaking goals though so there's still a lot to do."
The former Peterborough United defender also admitted that he has pretty much made his mind up on which players he wants to tie to the club.
He was pretty tight-lipped on who he will be approaching - but did confirm that Dunn is keen to sign up.
Dunn, who had a stint with Blue Square South outfit St Albans City last season, injured his eye in Spalding's 2-1 win over Peterborough United last week.
Scott added: "Hopefully Ian will be fit for the weekend or Deeping on Tuesday.
"He wants to be involved and show me what he can do and seems keen to sign."
Dunn could form a strike force with Anelka, who notched his second pre-season goal on Tuesday.
The hulking frontman levelled matters at 1-1 and also hit the woodwork twice in another encouraging display.
Poor defending allowed the hosts to re-take the lead, but Westwood equalised from a corner two minutes from time.
Friendly fixtures: Saturday - Wisbech Town v Tulips (3pm); Tuesday - Deeping Rangers v Tulips (7.45pm).
