Spalding and District Table Tennis League (sponsored by JDM Ingredients Ltd) resumed its league programme last week following the Christmas/New Year break.
Unfortunately Division One got off to a poor start with one match postponed.
However, in the meantime South Holland strengthened their grip on top spot with a 4-1 win over Bladerunners.
Jean White took two and combined with Radek Blazicek for
the doubles, while John Gilbert scored the fourth point.
For Blades David Gibson dented John's 100 per cent record for his team's point.
Division Two is beginning to look like a two-horse race, though other teams do have games in hand.
Muffin Men moved out slightly thanks to a 5-0 victory over Zebra.
James Barton and Josh Vertannes won all their singles in straight ends, but strangely were forced to two deuces – one of which they lost – in the doubles.
Just three points down are Sporty 'n' Shorty who edged a win over The GIs who are currently third.
Garry Wilkinson scored an expected two and helped to win a close doubles in which Liam Harris played well for the losers.
Mel Edwards and Iain Sanders shared GIs' points.
Team Giraffe got their first win of the season when they returned from Newside with a 3-2 success over RAN.
This was helped by Joe Abram who also took his first point, having already secured the doubles with team mate Jon Shuttlewood. Nicola Wilkinson scored for the home team.
James Halgarth made his first double when he won his team's two points in their 3-2 defeat by The Billy Goats.
However, Dave and Ashley West took one each and the deciding doubles.
Having suffered at the hands of the two strongest teams Billy Goats are beginning to put a run together.
