First Division Extel won the Guardian Cup in Spalding and District League (sponsored by JDM Ingredients Ltd), beating Division Two pacesetters Rafalution.
As was to be expected Extel won all four of the singles games, although they were held to just a ten-point lead in one game, and conceded more than 20 in another.
This gave them a maximum of 132 while Rafalution scored a commendable 76, more than
they had targeted.
The hidden handicap added a further 51 points to their score but, giving them 127, it was five short of what they needed.
Extel then played a fresh JAG team, but still had enough to win 5-0.
JAG, however, were quite pleased with their performance in a season of much gaining of experience.
Bladerunners had a hard-fought match, which they eventually lost 5-0.
However, with two matches going to the fifth end, the winners had to concede that the result could easily have gone the other way.
In Division Two the top three teams all played, as a result of which the picture changed very slightly.
Rafalution, undaunted by their cup defeat, proved too strong for Billy Goats and got their seventh 5-0 win of the season. Four of the five games went to the fourth end.
Rivals Muffin Men also chalked up another 5-0, their sixth, meaning they stay level on points but having played a game more. All their games in the win over Zebra were over in straight ends.
Sporty 'n' Shorty dropped back a little with only their second defeat of the season, 3-2 to GIs.
Mel Edwards picked up a double for GIs, while Sporty's Garry Wilkinson, who has hit a bit of a rough patch, only scored one. Team-mate Claire Taylor took one, so that the doubles defeat lost them the match.
Billy Goats won a very close match, 3-2 against Butterflop. Two matches went to the fifth end, two to the fourth and most of the games were really tight.
Team Giraffe picked up their first clean sweep of the season when they won all games against RAN.
Even so it was another match that was not as one-sided as the score might suggest.
