Nick Grimer ran a sub 34-minute 10k for the first time to all but secure the Cambridgeshire Road League title.
It came in the fifth round at Sy Ives on Sunday.
Grimer extended his lead in the league. It is now only possible for one other person to be champion and to do that he would have to win all the remaining races.
Grimer said: "I decided to concent
rate on beating the people who could take points off me in the league rather than just try and race everybody but I had to run a big personal best to to achieve it.
"I had never run 10k in under 34 minutes before so to finish in 33.34mins was a massive improvement."
This time was good enough to take first place of the league runners and fourth in the event as well as win his age category.
Nick's wife and fellow Nene Valley Harrier and Spalding Triathlon Club member Laura Grimer also had another strong race, managing to run faster than ever before. She was fifth female in 40.39mins.
Spalding Triathlon Club are now well into the run up to their own 10k race at West Pinchbeck which takes place on September 28.
