Golden Lion have finally lost their unbeaten home record in Hart-Marler Spalding and District League.
Ever since their arrival from the Holbeach league some years ago the Moulton Seas End team, formerly the Ship at Fosdyke, have repelled all before them.

But they were finally beaten on their own table last week by Lake Ross, who themselves were st
ill coming to terms with a shock Knockout Cup defeat at the hands of Birds.

The writing looked on the wall again when the Lake's first two players, Martyn Frey and Tony Evans, both lost.

Leanne Wakefield steadied the ship and got the Pode Hole side off the mark and when captain Matt Goodale was given two shots in the next game, he levelled the score at 2-2.

John Lord played a steady, waiting game and cooly potted his last three balls and the black after some sustained pressure.

Up last in the singles games was Graham Wakefield, who won to make it 4-2 in a game that could easily have gone the other way.

Going into the doubles there was a brief light at the end of the tunnel for Golden Lion as the Wakefields lost the first game, but Frey and Lord got Lake Ross across the finishing line.

Goodale and Evans completed the night with a win for a 6-3 result.

  • County ladies: Lincs beat Shropshire 26-18 to avenge a defeat earlier in the year.

There was another stalwart performance from captain Michele Willis (of Golden Lion), who won all of her four games again for the second time.

Not to be outdone, Leanne Wakefield (Lake Ross) also won all of her four games to stop her rot of having lost her last eight games. It was her second 4-0 of the year.
