with conditions allowing a bit of swing and uneven bounce for the bowlers, new Pinchbeck captain James Cole elected to field first last Sunday.
Rutland Ducklings got off to an excellent start with young Simon Brown quickly making 62 before being t
he first of two caught and bowled wickets for Richard Riley, who had a phenomenal day with 5-43.
Inspired bowling changes by the wily Pinchbeck captain reduced Rutland from 98-3 to 116-7, until a late fightback spearheaded by another youngster, Calum Ferguson, enabled Rutland to finish on 145 all out, a good total for the conditions.
Pinchbeck's reply got off to a shaky start before Riley (49) and Langford (23) steadied the innings and brought the home team to 100-5.
However, late wickets led to a desperate run chase, including some spectacular big hitting by Dolton, which brought Pinchbeck close to the required total before running out of overs on 129-8.
Pinchbeck are at home to Barrowden and Wakerley on Sunday (2pm).
