SOUTH LINCS & BORDER LEAGUE
Division Three
Spalding 2nd (164-8) beat Moulton Harrox Sunday (138) by 26 runs.
AN UNBEATEN 42 from Tom Bristow sealed victory for Town in a closely contested derby game – and propelled his side up to third place in the table.
Spalding skipper Dav Naghen won the toss and elected to bat first, with Mick East (21) and Lee Eyett (14) taking the attack to the Harrox bowlers.
But after they were dismissed, wickets fell at regular intervals with Jim Clarke (5), Lyon (8), Cannon (1), Dave Endersbee(2), and Jack Barratt (16) falling in fairly quick succession to leave Town on the brink at 85-7 in the 28th over.
The innings was saved when dynamic duo Bristow and Kev Nottingham (17no) shared an unbeaten partnership of 46 for the ninth wicket.
Excellent bowling from Naghen and Cannon soon reduced Moulton to 37-3 in reply.
More wickets tumbled when dangerman Harry Barnett fell to Nottingham and Morris was brilliantly caught by Lyon.
The pendulum swung back Moulton's way however, with a partnership of 40 between Maltby (32) and Tim Barrett (28) taking the score to 117.
However, a wily spell from East removed Broadbent, Waltham and Beavis all without scoring, and Moulton fell 26 runs short.
Skipper Naghen said: "That was a fine victory and a very good performance.
"The lads showed a great deal of character when we were under pressure while batting."
