BOWLS: Leaders Donington enjoy unbeaten start
Spalding and District EBF League
DONINGTON have started the Division One season with three straight wins.
Aubrey Bristow's side last week thumped Bourne Town A 6-0 on their own green.
The home side followed Whaplode Drove A and reigning champions Castle A on the growing list of teams already beaten by Donington.
Only one rink at Bourne was tight, John Needham, N Thorpe and M Liadlar edging home by one shot against Peter Dimbleby, Peter Tory and A Burton.
But Oscar Timm, T Stanley and T Williams had a thumping 34-13 for Donington.
Castle's depleted squad look as though they can only hope for any sort of tilt at retaining their title.
A 6-0 (92-54) loss at Whaplode Drove A makes it three straight defeats.
Bottom of the pile, though, are BSC, who were well beaten at Billingborough. Their solitary point came from Rod Quinton, David Turner and A Searle.
Division Two
Bicker cemented their promising start to the season with a fourth win on the trot. Holbeach USC shared the rinks with the league leaders, who took the aggregate points thanks to a 83-75 shots score and remain the only unbeaten side in the division.
Ayscoughfee A felt the backlash from Consti A's first defeat of the season.
They are almost propping up the division after taking a 6-0 (89-51) hiding.
Division Three
Goodfellowship will hope this column doesn't highlight any good form again too soon.
They went to Carter's Park B having taken 22 points out of possible 24 – and were promptly hammered 6-0.
Terry Crane's Holbeach side ran in a marvellous 106 shots, conceding just 49.
It lifted his side into second place, just a point behind the team they beat.
Moulton Harrox B started the season with two defeats, but are beginning to turn the corner. They inflicted a first defeat on Swineshead, winning 82-68 to take the all-important aggregate points after sharing the rinks.
Division Four
Sutton Bridge C are up to second spot after a 4.5-1.5 win at neighbours Long Sutton B, whose sole success came from Joan Bramwell with Alf Sampson and Albert Coles.
Richard Hayden's set halved with Roger Lidgard's Sutton Bridge trio.
