A YOUTHFUL Boston and District AC team astounded club officials by finishing third in the first North of England League Division Two match at Hull on Saturday.
The youngsters proved to be more than adequate substitutes for their more experienced team-mates and with the support of a handful of senior athletes achieved a total of 11 victories and 15 second places.

Winners were the host club Kingston Upon H
ill AC (422pts) with Rotherham Harriers and AC second (375) and Boston and District AC third (354).

Third position in the league table at this stage represents a good start, given the inexperience of the squad last Saturday. Club officials will be looking to strengthen the team when more members are available for the seconf match in the series at Doncaster on June 7.

In the women's 400m hurdles, Gold Tops representatives achieved maximum points with Jodie Favell winning the A event in a very pleasing 64.1secs and Isabelle Whitehead taking first place in the B race (73.6secs).

The women's hammer competititon was also very successful for BADAC with Stephanie Hendy winning after she achieved the same distance as the eventual runner-up and second best throws were taken into account. Her 37.87m effort means she has now thrown beyond the English Schools' AA national standard in every competition this season.

In the 110m hurdles Chris Cope won the B race in 19.7secs, Jodie Favell was a close second in the women's A race (19.7secs) and Isabelle Whitehead was also second in the B race (19.0secs).

In the men's hammer both the Gold Tops' throwers finished second. Wayne Clarke ranked behind junior international Peter Smith (Kingston Upon Hill) with 52.25m and Stuart Smith threw 31.25 in the B event.

The two male pole vaulters did well in senior competition, finishing second. Jake Brittain cleared 3.10m in the A event and Stephan Brockett 2.70m in the B.

The high jumpers contributed valuable points. Chelsea Brockett cleared 1.40m for victory in the B contest and Jake Brittain was third in the A with 1.65m.

The women javelin throwers made an impact.
