Record breakers at Thomas Cowley High
Thomas Cowley High School in Donington held its annual sports day last Friday. Fortunately the rain held off long enough for a day full of achievement, which was highlighted by the breaking of several records.
Harvey Medlock (Year 8) took two long-standing records. He broke the Year 8 boys’ long jump record, held by L Maskell since 1976, with a jump of 5m 59 and also the year 8 boys’ high jump record held since 1989 by N Firth. Harvey’s record jump was 1m 53. He now holds four records as he broke the Year 7 boys’ records for both hurdles and discus.
The Year 9 boys’ discus record was another record broken this year. This record had been held for the last three years by Jason Kirlew and is now held by Rhys Thornton, with a great throw of 25m 52.
The winning house for Years 7 and 8 was Cowley, with Swift second, Bass third and Flinders fourth. In Years 9 and 10 Bass was the winner with Cowley second, Swift third and Flinders in fourth place.
Head of PE Mrs Westwell said: “The day went really well. All the students seemed to thoroughly enjoy themselves. We have some very talented students. Well done to all of them.”
