YOUR LETTERS: Check crossing charge before you travel

Check before you travel.
Check before you travel.

If any of your readers are planning to go south across the Dartford Crossing (The Queen Elizabeth Bridge) or north (through the Dartford Tunnel), they should be aware that they no longer pay at the toll gates.

Now it is all electronic and each vehicle passing gets photographed and recorded.

You might think the crossing is now free as no collections are made.

You are required to contact Dart Charge either by telephone (0300 300 0120) or on its website at www.gov.uk/dart-charge.

Users are then charged £2.50 for each journey made. This can be done in advance of travel or within a certain time after passing the crossing. Check the website first.

Failure makes you liable to a fine of £70, or less if paid within 14 days.

Do not get caught out. I checked, have you? Have a good journey.
