TRAIN TICKETS: Why such a difference?

I would like to draw your attention to the fact that:

1. A day return standard class from Spalding, to Birmingham International on Saturday, November 24 is exactly the same price on ALL of the independent ticket-providing companies (£49.80). Where is the competition?

2. Same ticket from Stamford (only 25 miles from Spalding) to Birmigham International is only £25.

This is a difference of £24.80 and yet the cost of a return from Spalding to Stamford is £15.10. Why is the Spalding area so disadvantaged by price?
