The above question was asked to me by one of the children during the recent holiday club at our church.
It is not the first time I have been asked this; actually in my experience some of the deepest questions are asked by children.
We as adults might like to ask them, but we are too self-conscious to do so!
I replied (in simpler terms than this) that while we live in a world of cause and effect, God stands at the head – He simply is.
“I am who I am” is the way the Lord describes Himself. In other words the buck stops with Him!
But what is He like? He has revealed something of Himself through the glory of the universe; just like a painting has the artist’s signature on it, so does creation.
He has also revealed Himself through the Bible, His word to all humanity.
But supremely He has revealed Himself through Jesus Christ His Son. On one occasion Jesus said: “Anyone who has seen me has seen the Father.”
Want to know what God is like? Look at Jesus! Read one of the four gospels – it might be a real eye-opener!
