THOUGHT FOR THE WEEK: Memories based around happy times

Remembering is something that most of us take for granted, and our memories are often based around happy times; which is why older people cannot remember it raining in the summers of their childhood, yet it did rain, and meteorological records prove it.

Remembering is something that most of us take for granted, and our memories are often based around happy times; which is why older people cannot remember it raining in the summers of their childhood, yet it did rain, and meteorological records prove it.

Other memories are tinged with sadness; the childhood loss of a favourite pet. While for many there is the terrible loss of loved ones at a time of war, which we have been remembering this past week.

In the Bible we are reminded of God’s dealing with the Patriarchs, like Abraham, Isaac and Jacob in the Old Testament. While in the New Testament – the story of God sending his Son Jesus into the world to bring mankind back into a right relationship with God – culminating with the ultimate sacrifice that Christ made on our behalf on the Cross at Calvary.

But the Bible is more than just memories. We are reminded how GOD wants us to live. The rules that God has given us for living are not rules to curtail our joy in life. Quite the contrary – they are given – as Jesus said, “so that we may have life and life in abundance”.

May your life be full of good memories, and may you have abundant life, paid for by our Saviour Jesus Christ.
