It is great news that Spalding Street Pastors are now officially launched.

It is great news that Spalding Street Pastors are now officially launched.

They have been a terrific success nationally. They are a practical way of doing something that is true to what Jesus did; namely going out onto the street and helping those in need without reservation as to who they are or their circumstances.

They will be patrolling at night in all weathers, with prayer pastors backing them up with prayer and being ready to help call emergency services if needed.

The street pastors will not venture out unless the prayer pastors are available; a sign of how seriously the spiritual aspects are taken.

On busy nights there are hundreds of people leaving the pubs and clubs of the town and some are in serious need of help.

If they need medical or other help the team will summon the emergency services, and see that people get home safely.

“It’s OK, the street pastors will be on duty,” was a comment overheard by a friend elsewhere reassuring someone it was safe to come to a party. Our thanks to the council, police and the churches and volunteers who deserve our own support and prayers.
