Twelve years ago as the world stood nervously on the brink of a third Millennium one of the key marks for society and the churches was the open door.
In my previous parish we actually unblocked a stone medieval church door which led to a new church hall.
Our focus was the open door, looking out from one world into another whether a garden, or a street.
But closed doors can equally speak to the heart, especially at this present time.
Many in South Holland as elsewhere face the possibility and reality of finishing jobs, redundancy, unemployment and reduced hours.
In the current uncertain circumstances we see the open door of the new year through which we have passed into 2012.
Let us remember Jesus’ instructions and promises to his disciples as he returned to sit at God’s right hand
“Look I am with you always, even to the ends of the world.” We need no more than that to take with us into this New Year.
I wish you a very precious and blessed New Year.
