Being our first year in Spalding and having followed the build up to the Flower Parade in your paper and on television, we were somewhat disappointed at the conclusion.
With relatives up from the South specifically for the occasion, we all thoroughly enjoyed the general atmosphere of the day and the parade itself, and after it passed moved towards the fun fair so our grand-daughter could sample some of the rides.
We then made our way to the Sir Halley Stewart Playing Field as it stated in the programme we had purchased: “The parade will conclude at the free-to-enter playing field with a short set featuring songs made famous by The Andrews Sisters. Come along between 4pm and 6pm on view the floats up close, enjoy a bit of a sing-a-long and indulge in one or two Food, Glorious Food treats!”
We arrived just before 5pm only to be told all the floats had returned to Springfields. So with a very disappointed grand-daughter we were left somewhat deflated – what happened?
EDITOR: The event was called off on Friday because of flooding. This was publicised on the radio, Internet and other social media, but the programme could not be altered as it had been “on the shelf” for several weeks.
