I want to record my appreciation of the work being done to bring top-flight entertainment to The Market House in Long Sutton by a small but enthusiastic group of volunteers.
Recently, internat-ionally acclaimed guitarist Clive Carroll thrilled his audience with a performance covering every genre of music from a 16th century galliard to several pieces of his contemporary work using a Boss looper pedal, taking in his rendition of ‘Duelling Banjos’ on his five-string Gibson banjo. No wonder Madonna asked him to perform his music at her private party.
At Long Sutton, he played most of the tracks from his latest album Life in Colour.
Last year we saw Ashley Hutchings (ex-Fairport Convention) and Rainbow Chasers at The Market House – an evening of outstanding contemporary folk music, featuring Jo Hamilton on guitar and viola.
Jo’s album Gown has since become very successful worldwide – she is a wonderful musician and performer across a very wide musical spectrum.
It is great to be able to see performances of this calibre anywhere, and particularly as close to home as Long Sutton. Long may it continue.
I shall certainly be keeping an eye open for upcoming events at The Market House. Well done and thank you to all concerned.
