Monty Python’s Life of Brian is also one of my favourite films.
But for the Reverend Robert Sheard to imply that belief in Christianity has brought only good to the world is simply untrue.
Time and again Christianity and most other faiths have been responsible for unspeakable atrocities, along with taking from children the right to make independent and informed decision on which, if any, belief to follow and are typically so misogynistic that I cannot believe we haven’t seen the law taking most religious organisations to task.
Faith is not a prerequisite for philanthropy and it’s about time religious leaders stopped implying that belief in their particular god is so. It’s way past time they focus more on “love thy neighbour” rather than “believe as I do”. Wouldn’t the world be a far better place should that occur?
