Only 30% took up Saturday collections

Have your say

Regarding the letter from a resident of Deeping St Nicholas and Monday bank holiday refuse collections. I can understand their disappointment at the cessation of the preceding Saturday collection.

The reason we have stopped these collections is because of the low take-up rate being experienced. Despite regular publicity, the average collection rate on these days was only 30 per cent of the norm. Like all other councils, SHDC has been required to make very substantial financial savings in order to protect front line services.

Given that 70 per cent of residents did not take advantage of Saturday collections and given the current financial climate, I hope readers will see this change as a prudent use of their council tax.

I can assure them of the district council’s ongoing commitment to retaining a weekly collection service.

Finally, can I appeal to all readers to continue to increase the amount they put into their green recycling bags. The more we recycle, the less we have to spend on sending black bags to landfill.
