I have just seen the lovely picture of the sunken garden in the paper.
I am a Holbeach born and bred retired person. The garden was there when I played in the park as a child.
There were four lots of stone steps down and four stone benches where you could sit and admire the beautiful flowers.
I can especially remember the roses – they were old fashioned varieties and the smell was wonderful.
Mr Emmett, the park keeper, was very proud of his special garden and he spent many hours on the upkeep of it.
I can’t remember when it was filled in and it is a shame that it was but no doubt it was done in the name of progress.
