Heartwarming group thrives

Have your say

WITH all the negative things about Holbeach in the news recently I would like to mention a positive after hearing an interview on the radio.

I have often picked up on items in the Lincolnshire Free Press and Spalding Guardian about Fenland Flywheelers who hold social events during the winter months at the United Services Club in Holbeach. It was a delight to hear some of the history about this group that was started over 11 years ago by locals Robbie and wife Hilary who realised there was nothing to cater for the adults in the area that was a lightweight evening to relax without television.

Since its inception it has had many speakers with talks on tractors to model aircraft, TV dancers to eccentric inventors and local historians to artists.

It continues to thrive, attracting up to 60 people per evening (with no admission charge).

As an old Holbeach resident it warms the heart to know there is something positive about my old home town and I wish the group all the success for the future.
