Grot spots: The council should be embarrassed

Have your say

Your newspaper is to be applauded for highlighting five of Spalding’s most depressing “development hotspots” (Guardian, June 6) and it is reassuring to know that South Holland District Council, while unable to take any direct action, is there to “await and encourage”.

Its hands may be tied but there are plenty of other things it could and should be busying itself with on land it does own.

The once attractive and well-maintained Castle Sports Centre and swimming pool site would be an excellent starting point. The running track in particular, once an excellent facility for local and visiting athletes, is virtually unusable. Is the council not embarrassed by this shameful state of affairs?
