Childminders and nurseries can also offer free places

I write in response to your article entitled ‘More free places at pre-schools’, published in the Lincolnshire Free Press on May 29, which relates to free places for two year-olds from disadvantaged families.

Having read the article I agree with the contents but I am concerned that it implies that the “eight settings” are all pre-schools.

I would like to point out that parents have a choice as to where to place their child and the early years settings able to offer the free places also include some day nurseries and registered childminders.

There are some registered childminders who already offer the funded places for disadvantaged two-year-olds and as from September will also be offering the three and four-year entitlement.
